Personal Data Protection Policy
The Hawkamah Institute for Corporate Governance (HICG) is established in the Dubai International Financial Center to obtain the protection for members provided by the DIFC Data protection Law 2007 (the Law) and the Data Protection Regulations (Regulations) established under the Law. The HICG is committed to protecting the privacy of members and non-members and ensuring the security of personal data we collect and maintain. We strive to apply best practice in the management of personal information whilst conducting our organisational activities in such a way as to better serve our membership and the community.
Under the Law, Personal Data means any information relating to a natural person who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identification number or to one or more factors specific to his/her biological, physical, biometric, physiological, mental, economic, cultural or social identity.
Your rights
Under the law you have:
- The right of access to, and rectification, erasure or blocking of, your Personal Data, where the Processing of it does not comply with the Law;
- The right to be informed of , and on reasonable grounds, to object to, the processing of your Personal Data; and
- The right to make complaints, on reasonable grounds, to the Commissioner of Data Protection regarding our processing of Personal Data (and the Commissioner may issue orders regarding your complaint as he sees fit).
Our obligations
- We have an obligation to keep records of our Personal Data processing and inform the Commissioner of Data Protection of our processing operations.
- We must comply with any direction issued by the Commissioner.
Web Site Information
HICG uses the information provided by you to measure the use of this web site and to improve its content and for the purposes described hereunder.
Whenever you request a page through your browser, navigation and click stream data such as:
- your IP address,
- browser and version,
- operating system,
- date and time and
- the site from which you have linked to this site
are stored in a log file and/or database. Any search terms that you enter into the HICG site search are also logged. This information cannot be used to identify specific individuals, and is only used for:
- web site and system administration,
- research and development,
- anonymous user analysis, and
- to provide accurate statistics to advertisers in the form of aggregated data.
This information, including the email addresses collected, is kept on a secure dedicated server hosted by HICG as well as servers within HICG offices.
The email addresses collected from subscriptions or payments are not sold or disclosed to any third parties. These addresses will only be used by our business to send out HICG communications based on your relationship with us . You will not receive any mailings you did not request.
When a survey appears on the HICG web site, information is collected, compiled and analyzed on an aggregated basis. HICG may share this aggregated data with advertisers or its business partners.
HICG hereby reserves the right to transfer any data collected in the event of an acquisition, full or partial, of the company or its assets, subject to the continuation of your Personal Data rights.
Members and Non-Members
We receive information including name, address, telephone, email and facsimile contact details and profile information from members and non-members on membership, membership renewal or other application forms, order and booking forms.
We receive information on non-members from a wide range of personal contacts, referrals and from publicly available sources.
We receive information when you contact us in person or via the telephone, send us a facsimile or e-mail or attend our functions or courses.
We also request personal information when you request products from us or apply to enrol for courses, conferences or other AICD sponsored events.
The Personal Data we collect is essential to our organisational activities because it is required to assess eligibility for membership of HICG, course participation or member advancement. The annual subscription process is used to ensure that your contact details are correct. We maintain and use this information in written and/or electronic form in order to customize website content for you and provide you with information, products and services that will be of personal and/or professional benefit. By ensuring that your profile information is current, you assist us to develop future strategies to benefit HICG membership and to represent directors'; interests more effectively.
Password and Security
Access to the Members Only area of our website is restricted. To gain access you will be need to use your Membership ID and a password. You must keep this password confidential and must not disclose it or share it with anyone. Please note that you will be responsible for activities and orders that occur or are submitted under your password. If you know or suspect that someone else knows your password you should notify us immediately.
Confidentiality & Security
All our data is stored in written and/or electronic form and we maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards to protect your personal information. We restrict access to personal information about members and non-members to those employees, corporate partners, joint venture partners and third party providers who need to know that information to deliver our products and services efficiently and effectively. We are committed to ensuring that any Personal Data you provide to us remains confidential and secure.
