Under the theme: “Words to Action: The Regional Corporate Governance Challenge”, the conference will discuss the next steps of governance reform in the region. Hawkamah studies have indicated that there have been significant governance improvements in the past years, with a number of corporate governance codes having been introduced by various capital market regulators and central bank authorities. The issue now is implementation. Much of the burden of implementation lies with the regulators but the fact of the matter is that effective implementation will not occur if companies do not understand the value addition potential that corporate governance brings into the company. Hawkamah’s 6th annual conference will explore how implementation of good corporate governance can be facilitated and supported and how to provide practical steps and a road map for companies to improve their corporate governance practices.
The conference will be an occasion where participants from the MENA region will be invited to debate on the next steps for corporate governance implementation in the region and setting the next steps for corporate governance reform. The conference will also bring in international corporate governance practitioners, regulators and experts to identify those pressing regional issues that will advance corporate governance implementation in the region.
