Since our launch in February 2006, Hawkamah has:
- Participated in the development of the first code of corporate governance for state owned enterprises , the first such code of its kind in the Arab world.
- Developed and implemented a series of trailblazing programmes to address MENA directors, asset managers, and corporate secretaries in implementing corporate governance in the Board Rooms.
- Partnered with a regional capital market authority and established a model for capital market corporate governance codes.
- Developed and implemented the GCC's first Corporate Governance survey from an investors' perspective, a landmark survey of the corporate governance environment in the Gulf and a reference point for investors, regulators, and the private sector on corporate governance reform in the Gulf.
- Worked with family firms and listed companies to develop a code of corporate governance based on international best practices.
- Launched four regional task forces (banks, state-owned enterprises, insurance industry, and insolvency) designed to bring the public and private sector together, build a regional network, assess the state of corporate governance in each industry, develop policy briefs, and engage various stakeholders on how to build and strengthen the corporate governance culture in the region.
