Corporate governance has evolved since the region’s early steps when Hawkamah was started in 2006. Previously, corporate governance in the region has been driven by regulators, particularly capital markets and central banks, whose mandate is to promote the common good. In recent years, corporate governance in the region seems to be leap-frogging as more and more institutional investors, sovereign wealth funds, individual investors are clamoring for corporations to advance sustainable business practices that would do no harm to the environment and support social cohesion and job creation, guided by responsible and ethical corporate leadership and long-term value creation.
As we start the next decade, Hawkamah Institute 2020 Annual Conference will explore the emerging trends in governance, the implications of these trends to boards and organizations and what the regional companies, boards and directors need to do to not only to respond to current challenges but to prepare for an increasingly complex expectations . The format of each session will be based on an expert address, followed by an interactive discussion between the panel and the audience of various Hawkamah stakeholders including regional practitioners.
