Hawkamah has announced the appointment of Dr. Ashraf Gamal El Din, as the Chief Executive Officer, effective September 1, 2014. He will be based in Dubai with a mandate to cover the MENASA region.
Commenting on the appointment, HE Hamad Buamim, Chairman of Hawkamah said: “ Dr. Ashraf brings extensive experience in the field of corporate governance internationally and in emerging markets. He has more than 28 years of experience across different industries and types of organizations as well as the academic and advisory perspective. Having founded the Egyptian IOD, Dr. Ashraf brings lot of relevant experience on board.
In his new role, Dr. Ashraf will develop Hawkamah & Mudara IOD’s strategic, financial and operational objectives and oversee the implementation and accomplishment of these objectives. He will play a crucial role in identifying and implementing prospective opportunities for increasing revenues and building relationships across the region.”

With 28 years’ experience, Dr. Ashraf has worked with several leading companies and educational institutions. He was the Chairman of Egypt Post, the Executive Director of the Egyptian Institute of Directors and the Egyptian Corporate Responsibility Center. He was a board member in many large listed, non-listed, and family businesses. He worked also at the Central Bank of Egypt and at Cairo University. Dr. Ashraf has extensive experience in corporate governance and in setting and implementing strategies to raise the level of awareness and application of corporate governance and responsible business behaviour among companies. He has worked on designing and leading regional corporate governance projects in the MENA region along with the World Bank, IFC, WBI, OECD, CIPE, and FSVC.
Dr. Ashraf holds a PhD degree from the School of Economic, Social and Legal Studies, University of Manchester, England. He also holds a Master of Arts in Development Administration, Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada and a Bachelor in Business from Cairo University with honors.`
