Peter Montagnon, Board Member of Hawkamah and a towering figure in the world of corporate governance, passed away on 25th April 2019 at the age of 69.
After graduating from Cambridge University, he joined Reuters news agency as a financial journalist, completing assignments in Hong Kong, Zurich and Washington before joining the Financial Times, where he was a senior journalist for 20 years.
After a successful career as journalist, Peter became known as the champion of good corporate governance. He was the head of investment affairs at the Association of British Insurers, senior investment adviser at the Financial Reporting Council, as well as chairman of the board of the International Corporate Governance Network. More recently, Peter served as an Associate Director of the Institute of Business Ethics and as a Member of the Corporate Governance Advisory Board of Norges Bank Investment Management.
Peter Montagnon will be missed tremendously by the Hawkamah team, Hawkamah Board of Directors and the Advisory Board.
HE Dr Ahmad AlShaikh, Chairman of Hawkamah said: “Peter was a giant in his field. He was known and respected in all parts of the world for his knowledge and expertise. He was instrumental in shaping Hawkamah and our activities. We are devastated by this loss. But what we will miss the most is his warmth, passion, humor and intellect.”
In addition to his duties as a Board Member, Peter also served as a co-Chair of Hawkamah’s Advisory Board. He also became the father of the Hawkamah Journal, which focuses on emerging trends and insights on corporate governance.
